Microsoft is acquiring Zenimax for $7.5 billion to enhance its Xbox video game console with better titles. Zenimax media is the parent company of the well known Bethesda Softworks that is responsible for popular titles such as Wolfenstein, Dishonored, The Elder Scrolls, Doom, etc. According to the company, the plan is to bring the future games of the Bethesda to its Xbox game pass to let users enjoy more titles without spending extra money. More than 15 million Xbox game pass subscribers will be benefited from this.
Acquiring the company doesn’t change its current structure or workflow, Microsoft added. The leadership will also remain the same without any considerable changes. Microsoft will make use of the new addition to its gaming section by introducing new titles to the Xbox gaming consoles which might affect the dominance the PlayStation has on the gaming market. Microsoft is clearly trying everything in their ability to beat the PlayStation consoles that have been dominating the market for the past few years with their gaming consoles.
COVID-19 pandemic has increased the amount of time people spend on games. Encouraging people to stay inside their homes, releasing new titles, and making enhancements for the existing ones with more features is a win-win for the company as well as the people to reduce the effect of the pandemic. Microsoft had already provided many offerings to the users to play games via its cloud services and console. The new acquiring will let them add to this many more titles just like Bethesda did in the past.
