Apple ID can be used to access almost of the Apple Inc services including iWork, iTunes Store, iCloud, and the Apple Store. However, you can use any of the email services to signup for an Apple ID.
What is an Apple ID?
Apple ID allows users to stay organized with their devices by syncing almost anything on their device including reminders, calendars, and contacts. So that they will never lose any of their important information or other data.
Moreover, it is a great security measure which even helps to recover stolen devices. It is not strictly needed to signup for an Apple ID in order to use an Apple device such as iPhone or iPad. But as we already said, it is always recommended to create one Apple ID before starting to use your favorite Apple product.

How to create a new Apple ID on iPhone or iPad (iOS 10.2 and earlier)
- Go to the Settings app.
- Tap on the iCloud option.
- Tap Create a new Apple ID option.
- Enter your Birth date.
- Tap Next.
- In the next step, enter your first and last name.
- Tap Next.
- Select your current email address or get a new iCloud email address. That’s why we told to create your own email address. If you prefer an iCloud email, just click on that option. To create an iCloud email, enter your email address > create a password > verify the password.
- Select a security question.
- Type in the answer.
- Repeat the same two more times and provide answers.
- Agree to the Terms and Conditions of Apple Inc.
- Tap Merge or Don’t Merge to sync iCloud data from Safari, contacts, reminders, and calendars, etc.
- Tap the OK button to confirm. Now the option Find My iPhone is turned on.
- That’s it, you’ve signed up for the Apple ID.
How to create a new Apple ID on iPhone or iPad (iOS 10.3 or later)
- Go to the Settings app.
- Tap Sign in to your iPhone at the top of the screen.
- Tap Don’t have an Apple ID or forgot it? option.
- Tap Create Apple ID in the shown up window.
- In the given box, enter your birth date.
- Now, tap Next.
- Enter your first and last name in the appropriate boxes.
- Tap Next.
- Select your current email address or get a new iCloud email address. To create an iCloud email, enter your email address > create a password > verify the password.
- Then, select a security question and type the answer.
- Repeat the same two more times (There will be a total of 3 security questions.)
- Now, agree to the Terms and Conditions (Be sure to read them if possible.)
- Tap Merge or Don’t Merge to sync iCloud data from Safari, contacts, reminders, and calendars.
- Finally, tap the OK button to confirm. Now the option Find My iPhone is turned on.
- That’s it, you have successfully created an Apple ID and completed the necessary iPhone setup process.
The above methods mentioned the steps to create a new Apple ID which you don’t have already setup. There maybe situations when you already have a ready-made Apple ID, and you want to connect it with your device. In such cases follow these steps.
How to sign in to iCloud with an existing Apple ID on your iPhone or iPad in iOS 10.2 and earlier
- Go to the Settings app.
- Tap on the iCloud.
- Enter the email address and password of your Apple ID and tap Sign In.
- Tap Merge or Don’t Merge to sync iCloud data from Safari, contacts, reminders, and calendars.
- Tap the OK button to confirm Find My iPhone is turned on.
How to sign in to iCloud with an existing Apple ID on your iPhone or iPad in iOS 10.3 or later
- Go to the Settings app.
- Tap Sign in to your iPhone at the top of the screen.
- Enter the email address and password which is associated with your Apple ID.
- Then, tap Sign In.
- Enter your iPhone passcode if you have one already set up.
- Make sure that the functions such as iCloud Photos are set as per your needs.
- Finally, toggle the apps that use iCloud to ON or OFF.
Now you know how to create a new Apple ID for your iPhone or iPad as well as to connect your existing Apple ID with your devices. But what about signing out of the iCloud (Apple ID) when it is necessary? Here are the steps that you have to follow.
How to sign out of iCloud on your iPhone or iPad in iOS 10.2 and earlier
- Go to the Settings app.
- Tap iCloud option.
- Scroll down to the bottom and tap Sign Out.
- Again tap Sign Out. This is to confirm that all the Photo Stream photos and iCloud Drive content will be removed from your iPhone.
- Then, tap Delete from My iPhone. This is to confirm that all Notes stored in iCloud will be removed from your iPhone or other iOS devices.
- Select delete or keep iCloud calendars, Safari, reminders, and contacts on your device as per your intentions.
- Enter the password.
- Finally, tap Turn off.
How to sign out of iCloud on your iPhone or iPad in iOS 10.3 or later
- Go to the Settings app.
- Tap your Apple ID shown at the top of the settings screen.
- Scroll down to the bottom and tap Sign Out.
- Enter the password of your Apple ID.
- Tap the Turn Off option.
- Choose what data you want to keep on your iPhone and then toggle the switch on.
- Tap Sign Out on the upper right side of the screen.
- Again tap Sign Out when prompted. This is to confirm that you want to sign out of iCloud on your iOS device.
